Destroyed LB Sites?

From: Mary Marshall Fowler (mmf1@comcast.net) | Date: 2003-08-29 15:37:29 UTC
It just occurred to me... have some LB sites been destroyed or
extremely modified? If I had placed LBs as a child, in the area
where I lived in Monterey Park, CA, the sites would have been
destroyed when subdivisions were built. Are there any boxes or
sites like that?

yes... My box to commemorate a fantastic shoe tree became irrelevant/retired when some pinhead vandals cut
the huge old oak down. Boxes hidden at the Oregon Zoo by the Traveling Circus disappeared when
landscaping changed. I know there have to be tons more but those jump out at me. Funhog

Yep, they started to build a suspension bridge atop the Galloping
Gertie LB--if it weren't for a suave and daring TnE LB rescue at a
time during which I was unable to break away from work--this
letterbox would have definitely suffered the same fate as a dozen or
so cars and a poor little dog who now lie deep in the bowels of the
Tacoma Narrows. It now resides in a location a couple miles away
that offers a great view of the bridge!

As for other letterboxes, I've mostly had problems with vandals of
the 2-legged type totally obliterating old stumps or natural little
niches in which I'd hidden letterboxes--destroying the letterboxes
in the process. :(

I had a wonderful letterbox site with a stump at a trail junction,
paved over and replaced with a nice bench! Great for the walkers on
the trail, but not so great for letterboxing. :-)
